The accurate translation would be "The Melancholy of Suzumiya Haruhi" as that is how to say her name really is said.

The Japanese do not change English names in anime. so why should the idiots who dub anime change the Japanese names...? And why do most people copy that idiocy...?

It matters a lot.
She would not like being called "Haruhi Suzumiya", since it is in the wrong order.
Her name is Suzumiya Haruhi. It is important that her name is said correctly.
That she is mostly just called Haruhi is not a reason to be incorrect.
